Kindergarten Chinese Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Job Purpose

As the Kindergarten Chinese Teacher (Maternity Cover) at the International Christian School, Hong Kong, you will create a positive culture of learning and provide instruction aligned to ICS Learning Principles in Reception 1 and Reception 2 (ages 3 and 4).  Our Curriculum is Standards-based (Common Core, NGSS, C3) integrating a biblical worldview.  

This position covers our teacher on maternity leave from December 9, 2024 to April 11, 2025.

  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment that values student care, and contributes to the intellectual and spiritual growth of students.

  • Plan, prepare and deliver lessons that cater diverse student learning abilities, with clear objectives and learning outcomes aligned to the World Readiness Standards.  

  • Design and implement assessments that facilitate timely and effective formative feedback.

  • Maintain regular communication and trust with parents openly and cooperatively.

  • Engage in administrative tasks that are core to the school’s operation, such as curriculum management, service on committees, as well as engagement in co-curricular activities.

What you will do:

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong passion and commitment to Christian education, with a positive attitude, and a growth mindset.

  • Excellent command of Mandarin, with demonstrated proficiency equivalent to level 2A(二級甲等)or above under the Putonghua Proficiency Test (i.e. Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi)

  • A bachelor’s degree and teacher’s certification (i.e. Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, or Postgraduate Diploma in Education) or equivalent awarded by an accredited university. Holders of Registered Teacher license or Qualified Kindergarten Teacher license by the Education Bureau of HKSAR are highly preferred.

  • Strong pedagogy and experience in classroom Chinese Language teaching in Mandarin to early years students.  Familiarity with the international school environment and pedagogy are highly preferred.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction and cultivate an enjoyable process for early years students to inquire Chinese language and culture.

  • Proven effective classroom management experience, with the ability to handle emergency situations with appropriate safety protocols and a calm demeanor.

  • A team player with the ability to interact well with faculty, students and parents in all aspects of school life.
