Excellence for life Anchored In christ

About ICS
ICS was opened in 1992, providing affordable, Christian university preparatory education. The school found a niche with non-missionary families who fueled demand for the school’s program. This draws into our vision as a school; ICS aims to honor Christ by modeling excellence and innovation in holistic Christian education. ICS has grown to 1200 students from Pre-Grade 1 – Grade 12 on our Shek Mun campus and 144 in our Kindergarten Campus in Ma On Shan from Reception 1 to 2.
ICS seeks to be centered upon Christ and is committed to building God’s Kingdom and integrating faith, learning, and action. We are an evangelical Christian school that uses academic and extra-curricular programs to develop the whole student – intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually.

Beyond the Classroom

Our Story

The first home for ICS was in a facility owned by the Bethel Mission of China at 45-47 Grampian Road, Kowloon City.

Morrison consultant David Brooks admits, “I spent a lot of my personal time on ICS and I don’t regret a minute of it.”

Gery Helsby, an ICS founder says, “ICS had humble beginnings but God’s grace has brought it far.”
A conversation at halftime of a basketball game between a missionary and an educator marked the beginning of ICS.

The first ICS logo incorporates water for Hong Kong's location and life in Christ, a cross for Christ's centrality, and three prongs symbolizing academic, personal, and spiritual development.

The Hong Kong Education Department (former EDB) approved ICS to use the Bethel Bible Seminary facility. (1992 - 2008)

Dr. Frank Martens takes the reins as the first Head of Schools of ICS. (1992 - 1996)

Fifty-six students eager and ready to learn on the first day of school in 1992.

ICS warmly welcomed its first students with an opening ceremony, marking the inaugural day of classes at the Bethel Campus (1992-2008). The Bethel Campus was a simple place but one where great things happened for students.

Over the next few years, ICS expanded into satellite campuses in Kwai Chung, Hung Hom, and Fo Tan to accommodate kindergarten and elementary students.

ICS won a Shek Mun land grant among 280 schools, standing out with "Love based education" that fosters quality academics and holistic child development, modeled by Christian staff.

Mr. Ben Norton is named the fourth Head of Schools (2003 - 2012)

The Shek Mun campus's official groundbreaking ceremony saw eleven ICS representatives, with gold shovels and hard hats, dig into the dirt after making personal statements. Psalm 118:23, "This is the Lord’s doing and it is marvelous in our eyes," was quoted to mark the occasion.

A topping ceremony for the new school building celebrated reaching the final level of construction.

Students moved into the Shek Mun campus, with its grand opening ceremony held in the same academic year. Notably, the Class of 2008 was the first to graduate from the new campus.

Mr. John Nelson is the fifth Head of Schools (2012 - 2015)

Dr. Jerry Buckner, former Director of Admissions & Student Services returns to ICS to lead as the sixth Head of Schools (2015 - 2020)

Dr. Brian Modarelli, ICS's seventh Head, led the school through COVID-19's online/hybrid learning. Though delayed, the community later celebrated ICS's 30th anniversary, giving thanks for three decades of faithfulness. (2020-2023)

Reverend Nick Seward joined ICS as the eighth and current Head of Schools

After 15 years of hard work, Mrs. Edith Chan retired as ICS's longest-serving trustee (2010-2025) and Board Chair (2012–2022). During her time on the Board, she faithfully led our school community with wisdom and dedication as both a parent and steward, guiding the school’s strategic vision, governance, and mission advancement over more than a decade.

My Story, Our Community

Allison Wong
Transitioning from a local school to ICS, I was initially anxious about adjusting to a new environment and different ways of learning. However, I felt welcomed by the community, and the transition turned out to be much smoother than I expected. ICS has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, especially through opportunities in public speaking and leadership, both of which have been invaluable life skills. Leading the Service Warriors club, joining as a designer in the Marketing Club, and taking part in Week Without Walls allowed me to discover new interests and build meaningful friendships. I am truly grateful for my teachers and friends who have supported me and helped me to grow into a more confident and independent person.”
Grade 11 Student (Class of 2027)

Mrs. Nelly Wong
My daughter Allison joined ICS in middle school, and since then, it has been amazing to see her grow into a confident and independent young woman who truly takes charge of her own learning and development. With the guidance of teachers and University Advisors, she is thoughtfully charting her own path toward the university and major she’s passionate about. One of the greatest joys for us as parents has been witnessing Allison dive into activities she loves including service activities, interest clubs, and leading school committees. These days, I find myself much more involved in my daughter’s school life rather than her school work, supporting her in performances, sports events, and even friendships. It brings me comfort to see how the relationships Allison has built with friends and teachers at ICS have helped shape her into a thoughtful and mature young lady.”
Mom of Two ICS Girls

Mr. Juan Coello
During my years at ICS, I was affectionately known as “Mr. Greeter.” Originally from Ecuador, I first came to Hong Kong as a missionary, later pastoring a church and teaching Greek at a Bible college. I joined the ICS community in 1992 when my son became a student, starting out as a volunteer before serving as janitor, security guard, and eventually as the school’s “official greeter” when we moved to the Shek Mun Campus.
I retired in 2018 with countless fond memories of students, parents, and staff who became like family. Whether riding the train with students after school or cheering them on at games, it was a blessing to share God’s love through a simple welcome at the door and to witness His hand in shaping this community.”
Former Official School Greeter

Kimberly Chan
I started at ICS as an ESL student in Grade 6, and my teachers surrounded me with real love and patience that changed my life. Their care inspired my approach as both a teacher and a counselor.
After twists and turns in my career, God led me back to ICS, truly an answer to prayer for work where I can walk alongside students and help impact their lives. This community still values warmth, understanding, and supporting every child’s growth, just as it did when I was a student.”
Elementary School Counselor ICS Alumna, Class of 2005

Alan Lui
Alan joined ICS in October 2020 after working for years in engineering and facilities management. Although the transition was challenging at first, he’s grown to appreciate the community and values that make ICS special.
“At ICS, I’ve found a supportive environment where my work is truly appreciated—teachers and students don’t hesitate to say thank you. As a staff member and a parent, I see firsthand how this school values every individual,” Alan reflects. “Being part of a Christian community helps me approach my work with clarity and integrity, and I’m grateful for the extra time I get with my children. ICS is a place where growth, gratitude, and care really matter.”
Facilities Manager

Bonnie 阿好
Over nine years at ICS, I’ve witnessed many changes and met countless people, but what remains constant is the spirit of care that shapes every day here. I especially enjoy working at the entrance, where the pace is lively and I get to help students safely arrive and leave – rain or shine. It’s heartwarming when kids and parents greet me by name, sharing quick chats or jokes; these personal connections make the job special.
Whether it’s morning arrival or after-school dismissal, coordinating with colleagues and mentoring new staff, I’m proud to be part of a team that prioritizes safety and supports the ICS community.”

✨ Last Saturday at Parent U, we came together to reflect on the heart of parenting - connecting with our kids, nurturing our marriages, and keeping God at the center. 💛
🛣️Even when the road ahead feels uncertain, we can rest in the assurance that our children’s future is in His hands. 💗He knows them, loves them, and cares for them even more deeply than we do.
👣We’re grateful to walk this journey alongside you. Thank you to our parents for joining us and to our speakers for sharing wisdom and encouragement. ✨

🎶✨ Our Lower Elementary students enjoyed a special Symphonic Stories experience yesterday.
Led by Mrs. McKenzie and Mrs. Cheung, the HS Bands and Strings brought children’s favorites like The Gruffalo, Ish, The Day the Crayons Quit, and Can I Play Too? to life through music and narration. 🎻📚
This creative blend of storytelling and sound gave our younger learners a fresh and joyful way to experience these beloved tales. 🌟

💭Our fifth graders have been exploring a big question:
“What does the Bible say about government?”🌎
With guidance from a special panel featuring Mr. Yuen, Mr. Seward, and Mr. Welch, students wrestled with -
📌Why government exists?
📌The role of authority
📌What it means to live responsibly in community?
🗣️These conversations don’t just prepare them for society at large but they shape the way our students live, learn, and contribute to their classroom and school community every day. 🙌

🌱Last Friday, our elementary school teachers used the afternoon of an early release day to collaborate and grow together. By sharing ideas and working as a team, they explored new ways to inspire and support their students.
And even on a day like ⛈️today, when there are no classes, students can continue learning on their own. 📚

💡 At ICS, service is part of who we are. Last Friday’s 30 Hour Famine gave our secondary students the chance to live this out in meaningful ways.
With guidance from 🌍World Vision, they learned more about global poverty and the challenges of undernourishment.
“Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.” Luke 6:21

For those who’ve been part of ICS for a while, you’ll remember this familiar face… ✨ Mr. Coello a.k.a Mr. Greeter ✨
Every morning, Mr. Coello welcomed students at the door with his warm smile 💙 and a high five to start the day. 🙌
What made him special wasn’t just his greeting, it was the way he genuinely cared for students. He shared how our Secondary School students would stop by his room to invite him to take the train home together 🚇 or ask him to cheer them on at home games. ⛹️♂️
To Mr.Coello, ICS students and families were more than a community. They became like 💕family to him here in Hong Kong.🇭🇰
At the end of his visit, he prayed with us and reminded us that God’s faithfulness is always with ICS…every day, every week, every year…and year after year. Amen! 🙏
